Cydney Thompson

My name is Cydney Thompson. I am obtaining my Bachelor’s degree in Illustration with a concentration in concept art. My current portfolio explores the expression of character creation and how it relates back to personal experiences and influences. Creating a set of characters that serve as gateways into existence and vary in happening. Through my character design, a look into emotions, experience of queerness, navigating self identity, and what it feels like to be present in this life. These characters are a perspective for those who self-reflect and can feel aligned with our shared realities. Digitally creating allows for me to digitize my lived experiences, important facets of my self identity, and how I feel and navigate through these components of my life. With all of these factors, they conjoin into a mundane and expansive world that convey interpersonal boundaries. My primary choice is working digitally, I find that the ability to use a variety of different brushes and flexibility allows the characters and world building to articulate accurately the way I maneuver in my reality. The goal of my work is to not only be a window looking into my own self, but to bridge people together. Between my junior and senior portfolios, my hope is to take the knowledge of foundation and consistency and intertwine it with reflection that captivates or feels relatable in the media.
